A commercial against gay adoptions has been published online in Russia, with a blatant homophobic message.
The commercial shows a boy who lives in a Russian orphanage and is happy to have been adopted, as he walks out smiling holding his new dad’s hand. The boy is then saddened when he discovers that he was adopted by a gay couple. The video shows another man, heavily made up, who gives him a little girl’s dress under the shocked gaze of the educators. Then a voice-over is heard saying, “Is this the Russia you want? Decide the future of the country, vote for the amendments to the Constitution”. This is the dramatic situation in which the GLBTQ+ community lives in Russia, which since Putin took power has been forced to suffer persecution, arrests and in many cases actual executions then covered up by the police.
